Access control and permissions

Edjet LMS feature an advanced unified access management system. It allows you to manage permission settings on individual item level and also on item type level with confidence.

Permission settings

There are two permission levels, that control what the permitted user can do with the item:

• View - limited, read-only access; no changes can be made to the item.
• Edit - full access; item can be updated and also deleted.

One of the permission levels may be assigned to:

• User groups: Set view or edit permissions for one or more user groups. All members of given groups will gain the permissions.
• Users: Set view or edit permissions for one or more users. It can be learner, instructor or administrator.
• Everyone authenticated: Set view or edit permissions for anybody who is signed in to the application.
• Inherit: Use this setting to enable or disable permission inheritance from parent item.

Following settings require Admin role:

• User roles: Set view or edit permissions for one or more user roles. All users having given roles will gain the permissions.
• Public: Make the item publicly accessible.
  This apply only to some items, like website page.

Item owner

If you create an item, you automatically become an owner of that item and gain full (edit) permissions.

Item-level permissions

Manage access control for individual items - a specific course for example.

Examples:

• Set view permission to the Course "A" to User group "B" – to publish the specific course to the members of the specific group.
• Set edit permissions to the Course "C" to Instructor "D" – to allow specific instructor to update specific course settings and create it's content.

Default component permissions

It is possible to set default permissions for all items of a certain type, such as courses, learners, etc.

For example:

• Administrator can view and edit all courses.
• All instructors can view all learners.

This setting always override item-level permissions.
